Sooo, for Valentines day me and Given toddled down to Portobello Road market and I sat and drooled over the old cameras that I wish I knew how to use. Except this time, I kinda found myself buying one. I bought a Yashica 635, a twin lens reflex camera, apparently a Japanese copy of a rolliflex. I've wanted to try medium format for ages, and this one uses readily available film and the camera itself is soooo pretty. I couldn't resist. It's a little battered and a little post-purchase research shows that I may have paid a smidge too much for it, but only a smidge. But I don't care! I got three compliments from random people just on the way home telling me they've owned one and loved it/did it still work and that it was beautiful! So I'm going to take that as approval, it's also lessened my post-purchase guilt somewhat. I've been sitting at home since just itching to go try it out, but unfortunately I hadn't any film. So tomorrow I'll be taking a hike into Bromley and buying a truck load to run around with. I can't wait!

On another note, I'm going to Northern Ireland on Tuesday to attend Givens fathers wedding and to meet the family in general. I'm very nervous, but trying to put it to the back of my mind! Hopefully the trip will be a good opportunity for taking some photographs, especially if we get time to visit the Giants Causeway. I'm muchly looking forward to it!

Also, I apologise for non-comments! I watch so many people these days and sort through deviations so infrequently that they build up and build up.

Been so long since I looked at your portfolio.....you have certainly "grown" :)
You're welcome! I've been trying to trawl through all the backed up deviations and I read a couple of yours, but I liked that one the most. Sorry for the lack of comment, 1,500 deviations is a lot to get through in one night, I tend to fave and stuff it into my journal instead.

How's yooou, anyways?

A half-read book is a half-finished love affair.
I'm just about alright.

I've been rejected from pretty much every graduate careers thing I've applied to (which, to be fair, is only 3) so that's pretty depressing. So...looks like office monkeying for a year and trying (harder! faster! longer!) again later. Also, I've got a bit of dissertation stress, which I'm moving onto worrying about whether or not I should get a haircut.
Addressing problems - 0; Unhealthy, alienating lethargy - 1.

Other than that, uni's been pretty interesting this term - feminist theory and native american peoples. Surprisingly good mix of modules.
We've now got a violinist lass in our band , which is really cool. We get on so well with her, it feels like she's been there for ages. And we're actually going to finish recording our EP sometime this month, apparently, although the studio is being a wee bit slow about it all.

Ooh, and my shiny purchasing thing - I'm getting a harp! Should be getting here in the week. When I went to try them out, it came quite naturally, so I hope I'll be able to pick it up and use it in songs pretty soonish.

How's all your stuff going that you didn't deal with in your journal?
Yuck, sorry to hear that. Three isn't an awful lot in the long run though. Are you going to keep applying this year? How does it work? (And did you completely dismiss that graphic design thing you mentioned?) Anyway, good luck with it! I'm very not looking forward to actually having to find a job!
Haircut: If you wondering whether you should or not, do it. That's how I work out mine anyway. I get suddenly obsessed with the thought of having a haircut and it doesn't go away until I do it, for good or bad.

I need to hear more of your bands stuff. Is it all on MySpace? I hasn't been on there in an age.

Ooooh, harp! Now you can dress in long white robes and maybe keep your hair long and flowing? Could be a good fancy dress opportunity. Even without that, tres cool!

And yeah, I'm good! Got a decent mark in my first assessment although I think my tutor thinks I'm trying too hard and not in the right frame of mind. She makes a lot of vagueish remarks about how I should be approaching my work, nothing very practical though. But I'm enjoying it at least! That's about all, really! Getting my glasses when I go home tomorrow. They're red! :D The frames, not the glass...that would be strange.

Yeah. I know, it's just as it was the ones I've applied to so far, that it depresses easily. Reminds me of when it took me ages to get my first job. Annoying thing is, these are HR graduate schemes, and I've had lots of experience in training people, which I mentioned, but it didn't seem to help. Not dismissed the graphic design/illustration thing completely, but think that I'd rather get a half-decent portfolio together while working a monkey job, rather than make a hurried one and also have my uni mark suffer.

We've only got our crappy demos recorded in my bedroom at the moment. We've got pretty much all the instruments down for our EP thing, and we've just got to do the vocals for half the tracks. Then, those will go up on Myspace and hopefully be available on CD (hopefully with my sleeve designs) at shows; if and when we get them.

You mean it's weird to dress in long white robes generally? I've got a little picture of a cat saying "Fashun - u doin it wrong!". Anyway, yeah! Harp!

Awesome, glad you're enjoying your course after so long of having awkward education. And red glasses...? normally, I'd advise against it as a bit Dame Edna Everage; but after seeing you manage to make that puff-ball mushroom skirt look good, I shall remain silent.
